FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What makes “Missouri Mikes” walking sticks and canes different from others I can purchase elsewhere?

A. “Missouri Mikes” sticks and canes are hand-crafted one at a time with attention to detail to preserve the natural beauty and unique characteristics of each stick, as opposed to a “mass-produced” product. Missouri Mikes walking sticks are meant to be enjoyed every time you experience the great outdoors!

Q. Why should I use a walking stick when hiking?

A. I believe the most important reason is the comforting and empowering feeling you get when doing so. It just “feels good.” Other reasons include a means of self-defense, use as a wading staff when crossing creeks, and a “third leg” when traversing steep inclines and trails.

Q. What size should my walking stick or cane be?

A. Everyone has their own preference and comfort level, so there isn’t necessarily a right or wrong size. Our knob-style walking sticks measure around 35″ in length, while our hiking sticks range from around 46″ up to 60″. Most average around 55″. A good rule of thumb is that when your holding the stick your arm should be at a 90-degree angle holding the grip area, with several inches of the stick above your hand.

Canes generally need to be a bit more specific in length. To determine the cane height that’s best for you do the following; Stand up straight, relaxing your arms at your sides naturally, and have someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor. This number is the cane length that will provide comfort and stability for you. A cane that is ordered and a bit too long can be easily shortened by us prior to shipping or done yourself with a fine-tooth hacksaw.

Q. How will my stick be shipped and how long will it take?

A. Shipping is through the USPS – Priority Mail and generally arrives within 5-7 days after placing your order. This shipping is $15.00 for all of the lower 48 states in the US. If expedited shipping is desired, please contact us for rates and details.

Q. What type of finish or protectant is on the walking sticks and canes?

A. Each stick and cane is finished in a way that enhances and protects its natural beauty. Some are stained. Some feature their natural wood tone. All receive several clear coats of polyurethane. The treatment choice is determined by the wood type and desired finished look. Finish specifics are listed in each stick’s description.

Q. Can a certain type or style of stick be pre-ordered?

A. Each stick is unique and one-of-a-kind, so “duplicating” a particular look or style is not always practical. However, we welcome your ideas and can discuss what we could possibly do to create one that is personal and unique for you. Please email us with these requests to discuss.

Q. Do you offer returns on sticks and canes purchased?

A. We want you to be 100% satisfied with your new walking stick or cane, so yes, we do offer returns. If you’re unhappy for any reason, please contact us to make these arrangements.

Q. What type of “Tips” are on the walking sticks or canes?

A. A black rubber tip comes on the bottom of each stick and cane. This tip provides a good grip on slick surfaces and protects the bottom of the stick from damage when hiking on rough terrain. They slip on for easy replacement when needed.

Our goal is to provide you with the very best in customer service! Please email us with any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you!
