Well, here we are at the end of October already. Where did this year go? I know it’s been a strange and difficult one for most of us trying to make sense of the changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. As much as I hate to see time fly by so quickly I think most would agree the sooner we get this year behind us and can start fresh in 2021, all the better!
But perhaps especially because of the way our lives have been impacted by this, I can’t think of a more important reason to make sure we involve ourselves each day with activities that are meaningful to us and others. To shut down and crawl in a hole would compound the negative effects of this pandemic. So today I went for an early morning walk through the woods – one of my favorite things to do. A relaxing walk – “think time” – as I like to refer to them. The quiet, unspoiled beauty of the woods in the early morning is unmatched for comfort and peace. The cool crisp air felt great this morning and signals the start of the harvesting and gathering season for my walking sticks. The photo above depicts a few beauties I found along the way. I’ll continue to walk, search, and gather throughout the coming months when the sap is down in the trees and perfect for cutting. By springtime, my wood racks will be full of sticks waiting to be carved and finished into handcrafted walking sticks and canes for outdoor lovers.
